Generation of Computer

The development of electronic computers had clearly helped to visualize the concept of computer.The computer system have taken a big leap forward with each technological breakthrough during the development process.The functions performed by the computer and speed of their operations have been changing .There have been a great variation in size and cost of the computers.
Technology breakthrough in the hardware and software  resulted into more and more advanced computer system.It has been identified that there are five major stages in the continuous development process of the computers.These stages are called computer generations.In fact, a computer system belonging to one particular technological class or trend is said to belong to a particular computer generation.
Computer Generations:
Depending on the device technology, system,architecture,processing mode and languages used,the computers are categorized into the following five generations:
1)First Generation Computers
2)Second Generation Computers
3)Third Generation Computers
4)Fourth Generation Computers
5)Fifth Generation Computers
