Bar Code and Bar Code Reader

A Bar Code Reader

A bar code is an identification code appearing on retail product packaging. The code consists of light and dark lines which are used to represent data.
The bar (lines) have varying thickness and spacing between them. The bar codes have to be scanned and decoded to get its value (i.e. price of the items).

Bar-Code Reader
A Bar-Code Reader reads the bar codes and converts them to electrical pulses which are sent to the computer for processing.
The mostly used bar code throughout the world is Universal Product Code(UPC). It uses a standard code having vertical bars of varying widths-representing ten digits. the first five digit identify the manufacturer and the second five digits identify the product.
