( 5 )Magnetic-Ink Character Reader (MICR)

Magnetic-Ink Character Reader
Magnetic-Ink Character Reader (M.I.C.R.) is a direct entry input device which reads the characters that have been printed in magnetic ink. Magnetic ink is special type of ink containing iron oxide particles which is used to write characters.
The magnetic ink gets magnetized when data are entered using M.I.C.R.Then the M.I.C.R. reads such magnetized patterns of written characters. For identifying those character patterns, they are compared with the patterns of corresponding characters stored in the memory.
M.I.C.R. are popularly used by banks for processing cheques, credit card etc. M.I.C.R. has the capacity to process about 2600 cheques per minute
