Point Of Sale Terminal

A Point Of Sale Terminal ( P.O.S.) consists of a keyboard for entering data (e.g. price ), a CRT screen for displaying the amount and printer to print the bill containing items and their prices.
Some of the P.O.S. terminals contain bar code reader. It is an on-line terminal which is connected to the computer. The optical-bar code reader reads the bar code of an item. Then it identifies the item code,  it is then decoded and data are sent to the computer for necessary processing. Finally, the computer prints the name of the item  and its price on the customer's receipt.
