C.A.I. (Computer- Aided or Assisted Instructions )
When computer is used as a teaching aid, it is referred to as Computer - Assisted Instruction ( C.A.I. ).
Computers are used for teaching a wide variety of subjects like language teaching, science, mathematics etc. Special 'author' languages may be used to develop C.A.I. programs. LOGO is one language which is suitable for preparing C.A.I. program. LOGO is very easy to learn and its graphic ability is very useful for animating pictures on the screen which is very interesting. It can be used to compose music. Another example of language used in C.A.I. is P.I.L.O.T. ( Programming Inquring Learning or Teaching ) P.I..L.O.T. is a dialog - oriented language which is simple to use. It can handle words,text etc very easily. There are different forms or modes of C.A.I. They are :
1. Instructional games : The concept regarding the subject is given to the students in the form of a game.
2. Drill and practice mode : In this mode of C.A.I., student's knowledge of previously taught material is tested by means of quizes and tests. To make the lesson interesting, graphics, diagrams, charts are used in the programs.
Example of L.C.M. Drill
Suppose, we want to find the L.C.M. ( Least Common Multiple ) of numbers.We can use C.A.I. to find the L.C.M. Such a program can be stored in a floppy disk or hard disk. This program can be used to learn and practice to find the L.C.M. After running such program, computer will ask you questions and answer,evaluates the answers. If you give a wrong answer the computer will give you the correct answer.
3. Tutorial Mode :
The tutorial mode of C.A.I. provides a tutorial method. There are different levels of lessons. The lessons are designed so that the students getting higher score are suggested for higher level such tutorial is suitable for both fast and slow students.

Computer simulation is a special form of C.A.I. Computer simulation is the modeling of the functioning of some system In other words, the computer can be used to show the functioning of some system such as controlling of traffic, air crafts flight simulation.
