MD(MKDIR)
The MD (or MKDIR) command creates sub directory of the current directory or of the root directory.

- Directory name can have maximum 8 characters.
- Extension (Maximum 3 characters) can be used with directories name.
- Two sub directories having the same name can not be created in the current directory.
- Directories are created with a significant name and placed files in it.
MD[drive:] path
or
MKDIR[drive:] path
where,
[drive:] : The drive where the directory is to be created.
path : Directory location for the new directory you want to create.
Note : Suppose you have computer classes for class8, class9 and class 10 in your school.To keep the files created by class8, class9 and class10 separately. You can create 3 sub directories named CLASS8, CLASS9 and CLASS10, students of CLASS8 can keep their files in CLASS8 sub directory. students of CLASS9 can keep their files in CLASS9 sub directory and students of CLASS10 can keep their files in CLASS10 sub directory.

C:\>MD CLASS9 ( press enter key )
It creates sub directory (i.e. CLASS9) in the root directory (C:\>)
Example 2
C:\>MD CLASS9\SUMA (press enter key)
It creates sub directory SUMA inside the directory CLASS9. So, one of your friends, SUMA of CLASS9 can keep her files (e.g. BIODATA) in her own directory.
C;\>MD A:\CLASS9 (press enter key)
It creates CLASS9 sub directory in the drive A : from drive C:
C:\>MD CLASS.ONE (press enter key)
It creates CLASS.ONE sub directory in the root directory (C:\>) of hard disk.
