The interface between man and machine can be done in two ways :
(i) Text / Typing Type Interface
(ii) Icon / Mouse Type Interface
(i) Text /Typing Type Interface :
In this type of interface the user or operator types the command using keyboard. The computers (i.e. IBM PCs) that you use in your school employs this type of interface.
(ii) Icon / Mouse Type Interface :
In this type of interface is commonly used with Macintosh computers. These computers display icons (i.e. Graphic Symbols) to represent certain operation. Whenever a user or operator wants to carry out the operation, he moves the pointer to the desired Icon (representing his desired operation). A mouse is a common pointing device. Whenever the mouse is moved on the table, the pointer moves here and there on the screen or monitor. The selection of the command is completed after moving the pointer to the desired Icon [and releasing the mouse button (i.e. clicking)]. This type of interfacing also includes a menu system. The list of available commands in a computer is called a menu. The selection of desired command is done by pointing to a desired command in the menu.
The IBM PC having latest processors or running windows operating system also use Icon /Mouse type of interface.
