Topology is the interconnection pattern of the Network. There can be various types of topologies. However, among them following are the major types of topologies :
Bus topology :
Bus network in which station tap into a single cable. Several segments may be interconnected by repeaters to increase the distance covered or number of stations. Information is broad cast to all the stations.
Ring topology :
Ring topology in which each node is connected to adjacent nodes and information is passed around the ring from one node to the next.
Star topology :
Star network with either an active switch or passive fiber optic star coupler at the hub, directly connected to each station. A passive star coupler broadcast codes to all connected stations.
Tree topology :
A tree network such as employed in abroad band system with a head amplifier (which changes the transmit frequency to receive frequencies) connected by successive branches to a large user population.
