A mouse is a direct entry input device. It is also referred as pointing device which is connected to the computer with a cord. It resembles a small plastic box with two or three buttons on the top and a ball at the bottom.
Holding the mouse with one hand, it is moved across a flat surface; ( like table ) then the cursor or pointer on the screen or monitor moves in the direction of the mouse movement. Thus, by using mouse,we can point or select the command on the menu simply by pressing its button.
The mouse can be used to draw pictures, to select command, to edit text etc. It is necessary when we work with the packages like MS-WORD, Page Maker, MS-EXCEL, etc. ( Windows based packages ).
